Keeping the organic records inspectors expect
How ProvenFarm lines up with USDA organic (7 CFR 205) recordkeeping.
The Organic page checks your records against the USDA organic rules and shows what's complete, what needs review and what's missing. It covers:
- Land: 36-month history with no prohibited substances, and buffer zones.
- Livestock: origin records, organic management dates, treatments reviewed with your certifier, and confinement records.
- Feed: certified organic feed with supplier certificates, checked against the Organic Integrity Database.
- Pasture: the grazing season and dry-matter intake for ruminants.
- Crops and inputs: seed searches, manure intervals, and approved inputs.
- Sales and mass balance: wholesale sales name the buyer and lot, and what you sold adds up to what you produced.
Records are kept for 5 years, as the rules require. Organic records can be voided with a reason, but not deleted.
ProvenFarm organizes your records; your certifier makes the certification decision. When in doubt about a product or practice, ask them and note their answer on the record.
