What does a dozen eggs cost you? Cost of production

Cost per dozen eggs, per pound of meat birds and per unit of everything you sell, worked out from your feed, flock logs and expenses, with your break-even price and margin.

Open Cost of Production (under Sell). Pick a period, and you'll see what each thing costs you, what you sell it for, and your margin. It warns you if something sells below cost.

  • Eggs: feed your laying flocks ate, from the daily flock log at the price of the feed lot, plus flock costs like bedding and vet, plus cartons, plus a share of overhead and certification fees, divided by dozens collected.
  • Meat birds: for each batch, chicks, feed, processing and anything else tagged to the flock, divided by pounds processed (or estimated from your latest weigh-in until then).
  • Everything else: expenses tagged to the product, divided by what you produced (or sold).
  • Overhead (fuel, electricity, repairs…) and certification fees are shared out by each product's share of your sales. Switch it off to see direct costs only.
  1. Log feed in the daily flock log and pick the feed lot. That's the most accurate feed cost.
  2. When you add an expense, pick the product or flock it's for (chicks, cartons, processing).
  3. Add certification fees on the Cost of Production page, or as an expense with the Certification category.
